UNDER PRESSURE

Pep Guardiola has admitted that there will be pressure on him at his new club Bayern Munich.

Guardiola has recently joined Bayern Munich as manager after remaining away from football for 12 months. He has replaced Jupp Heynckes whose contract was surprisingly not extended by Munich despite the fact that he produced great results in the last season.

Munich had won Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League in the last season.

Talking to the reporters after signing for Munich, Guardiola said, “There will be some pressure; no doubt about that. Jupp did a fantastic job during his tenure and I need to emulate his work. It’s a big challenge for me, but, I am prepared for it.”

The Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also looked pretty happy after securing the services of Guardiola. He said, “We had been trying to bring Pep here since a long time. We eventually managed to convince him in January. He guided Barcelona to a lot of titles with his great managerial qualities. Hopefully, he will be able to do the same here.”

Guardiola was the manager of Barcelona for 4 years between 2008 and 2012. Under his guidance, Barcelona achieved a lot of success.

In his very first season as Barca boss, Guardiola won three trophies i.e. Copa Del Rey, La Liga and UEFA Champions League.

The next season was not bad for Barcelona either. Not only did they defend their La Liga title successfully, they also became the Champions of FIFA Club World Cup in December 2009.

In the 2010-11 season, Barcelona won their third successive La Liga title and also, won the Champions League for the 4th time.

Guardiola’s fourth season in charge of Barca wasn’t as successful as the earlier three. The team managed to win only one title throughout the season i.e. Copa Del Rey. At the end of the season, Guardiola decided to resign as Barcelona boss.

Barcelona won a total of 14 trophies in 4 seasons under Guardiola.
