KROOS DEFENDS SCHWEINI

There has been a lot of criticism about the Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, but his teammate Toni Kroos has leapt to his defence by saying that the criticism is unwarranted. The former German internationals Gunter Netzer and Olaf Thon recently criticised the midfielder by saying that his national team position is under threat from the likes of younger players like İlkay Gündoğan, who plays for the German club Borussia Dortmund. Gündoğan he recently caught the eye of many during the recent international round of fixtures. Schweinsteiger was not part of the German team during the latest round of international friendly matches.

The 28-year-old Schweinsteiger has been criticised for not beating and going past people, but the Bayern Munich midfielder Kroos has said that it has never been in his game. Kroos has recalled that Schweinsteiger is a midfielder, who is known for his passing abilities. He has also said that players who currently playing his position do not dribble anyway. After being used as a wide midfielder during the early part of his career, Schweinsteiger is currently playing as a defensive midfielder for both club and country. He has managed to score 7 goals in 28 matches for the German club Bayern Munich this season.

“I have not followed it very closely, but it always depends on who says something and how much weight it carries. A lot of people comment on certain things. I have hardly ever seen Basti beat an opponent, throughout his entire career. He is a different type of player, who’s important with his passes and his mere presence. Very few players in his position dribble a lot. So this is all nonsense for me,” said the 23-year-old Kroos, who has been in fine form this season after scoring six goals in just 22 matches.
