BAYERN SPEND BIG
Bayern Munich have been one of the big spenders in the European transfer league this season. They have brought in the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Gotze, which has increased the strength of their midfield even more. Bayern Munich already had one of the strongest midfield amongst the clubs in the Champions League last season. They boast of the likes of Frank Ribery, Arjen Robben, Toni Kroos, and Thomas Müller. As a result of the two new signings, it is expected that competition will become even more intense between the players.
Kroos has been one of the best players for Bayern Munich over the last few years. His emergence as a real talent has meant that the likes of Robben and Ribery have found it difficult to retain their first-team spot on occasions. The injury to Kroos proved to be crucial in Robben re-establishing himself in the first team last season. Now that he is back from his injury problems, Kroos is looking to win the first-team spot. His task has been made even more difficult due to the presence of Alcantara and Gotze.
He has said that the intense competition at Bayern Munich does not faze him. Instead, it only motivates him to perform much better.
“What matters to me is being top fit again, with no more problems. When I’m playing well, I know it looks good,” said the midfielder after the recent 5-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in a friendly match. The big test for Bayern Munich will come in the German Super Cup final against archrivals Borussia Dortmund, who will be keen on getting revenge for the defeat in the Champions League final last season. Bayern, though, have been looking quite impressive under the new management of Guardiola, who is keen to embark a new style of play at the club.
