Toni Kroos was subjected to intense transfer rumours from all the top teams in the world during the summer. However, it was primarily thought that Manchester United and Real Madrid were the favourites to sign him.

United had held a long-standing interest in the German international with rumours suggesting that David Moyes made from his number one transfer target even before being sacked. Moving to United would have madeKroos as one of the important players at the club. At Real Madrid, though, the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to dominate the headlines.

After a slow start to life in the Spanish league,Kroos is starting to dominate matches just as he did at Bayern Munich.

The midfielder was widely influential in seeing the club set a new record of 22 victories in succession.Kroos is in the running to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award after having lifted the World Cup with Germany in the summer. Despite the impeccable quality, the midfielder cost only around £ 20 million since he had only one year left on his contract.Kroos says that the last six months have shown him that choosing Madrid over United was the right decision. United are facing a fight to even finish in the top four of the Premier League.

“I’m so happy to win the Club World Cup for a second time. This trophy is so good for Real Madrid, we are a great family.I chose Real Madrid and now I’m so happy. I was right to sign for Madrid. Before coming here, I didn’t know what to expect, but I made the decision. I  was looking for something new and I was lucky that I signed for Real Madrid,” said Kroos after lifting yet another FIFA Club World Cup title.
